What types of paired passages should I be looking for?
In my classroom, I have found that students often gravitate toward topics that involve conflict or controversy. This makes argumentative subjects particularly appealing. Additionally, I’ve observed that stories tied to current events work well with this age group. Also, passages with unexpected twists have been hits with my learners.
Once you’ve made a list of themes you think your students would enjoy, it’s time to construct your teaching materials around them. I’m a firm believer in planning with the end goal in mind. Ensure that the selected texts align with the learning objectives you intend to impart. This strategic approach guarantees that your lessons cover the curriculum you need to focus on in your classroom.
